    I don't know. At some point they became a source of contention at home when we ran out of cupboard space and no one would fess up to who was 1) bringing them home 2) washing them instead of throwing them away and 3) missing yet another chance to throw them away when emptying out the dishwasher.

    It made for an interesting intervention

    Lulz. I honestly don't know if you think I wrote "Austin Land & Cattle" or if you actually realize I wrote "Texas Land & Cattle". I meant the latter. Yeah, it was hyperbole. That said, on one occasion I did have a steak there that rose above shoe leather.

    True. Rudy's is certainly not the best I've ever had but the moist brisket is consistently good and more than occasionally outstanding, they're open when I need them to be, and I don't have to fight hipster congestion to get there. I've never understood the Rudy's hate.

    Rudy's hate exists? Even on this thread there's pretty much universal praise for their consistency. It's really kind of amazing that they're able to produce "fast food" bbq that is consistent and delicious across dozens of locations. While they're not "top 50", there ought to be a special category recognizing them for how good they are at what they do.

    Last couple times I've had the bfast tacos I've been massively disappointed, and I used to eat em at least once per week. The brisket tasted totally off, over smoked or something. And the sausage that was their links diced up is now some ground up crumble $#@!

    no, seriously though. DFW has 10 top 50 joints. plus another 8 Honorable Mention joints.

    Vaughn lists a total of about 50 joints in his Dallas Guide

    there is plenty of good Q there.

    I guess I was speaking of Dallas proper and not FW or either city's burbs. If you take City of Dallas only, I stand by my original statement.

    City of Dallas has 3 top 50 joints (Pecan Lodge + Lockhart Smokehouse and technically Cattleack) and 3 HM's (Slow Bone, 18th & Vine, Bakers Ribs)

    His Dallas Guide also includes Mike Anderson's BBQ, Mac's Bar-B-Que, Peggy Sue BBQ, Smoke, Odoms, Off the Bone, Big Al's, Baby Back Shak and Smokey John's

    Top 4 are pretty obviously Cattleack, PL, Lockhart, Slow Bone from that list...I will take the field vs Rudy's.

    Not that Rudy's is $#@! (it isn't), or that it is below average (it isn't) - it is above average for sure, but in my opinion, there are a ton of other/better options. Even if you are limiting it to Dallas "proper"

    did Terry Blacks on Barton Springs finally.....

    (note, i ain't as well versed as you $#@!s on centex BBQ joints)

    i liked it alot. the cafeteria style setup is nice. i felt the way you can get your sides, and in a very ad hoc and small manner to start is great. allowed you to understand your animal / non-animal equation quite well

    had the brisket and the pork ribs. both were good - B+ IMO. brisket a hair better. wanted the beef rib but it didn't look that great honestly. A bit meatier than what i was used to with Johns ribs and not as barky/peppery as i like

    sauces there are good. really like the habenero and the chiplotle mustard.

    overall a very good experience. highly recommend it.
