    The Movie You Just Watched

Not sure if you have done this on this board. This is a blatant ripoff of a soccer board I am on. But it's a good way to get ideas about flicks, old and new, and get some quick opinions. Apologies if there is already a thread on this.

Post what movie you have just seen, and hopefully say something helpful about it.

Peckinpah's Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid (1973)

In the end, not my favorite Peckinpah by a mile, but still pretty damn interesting for fans. The only movie I have seen Kristofferson in that I haven't liked him. Great cast, as usual in good Peckinpah, but no Oates. Killer, though ill fitting, soundtrack.

A whole bunch of other SPs to see before you see this one. But not a waste of time, and probably a helluva lot more important than I think it is.

    Fargo.

A stark study of human desperation set against a backdrop of ordinary folks, just trying to get by. Wonderfully filmed and expertly written and acted, it is a quintessential Coen Brothers film. The end makes me tear up every time.

Ironically, I just watched Peckinpah's The Killer Elite. I was let down in a big way.

    The Flock

I rented it on DVD and watched it last night.

Stars Richard Gere and Claire Danes.

A very dark serial killer/serial rapist movie.

The movie itself was a pretty darn good movie IMO.

It is most certainly not a movie that your girlfriend or wife would enjoy.

    I'd give it a 6/10

Literally just finished watching this and enjoying some contents out of the beer fridge.

The Princess Bride is on my list of the great movies ever made. Like the grandfather says, it has it all - fencing, fighting, torture, escapes, true love, miracles.

Peter Falk gave one of the best "looks" ever at the end of the film. Didn't see another that good until Bill Murray's Herman Blume met Bert Fischer in Rushmore.

Last movie I watched was "The Hunted"

i was bored and it was on USA so i figured what the hell. It is okay, story is a kinda a First Blood rip off, Jones and del Toro are fine in their roles. The best part about it is the knife fighting, those sequences are well done and entertaining.

Late to the Iron Man party, but finally saw it with the wife yesterday.

It had a lot of positive buzz from shaggy and elsewhere. I was not disappointed. The only quibble we had was that we felt another actress should have played Pepper. Nothing against Gwenyth; we just didn't feel that the role suited her, and the chemistry between her and Robert was not as good as it might have been with someone else.

The effects were terrific. Jeff Bridges plays a decent bad guy. It's everything you want in a summer movie experience.

Superbad. First time since I saw it in the theater and it was better the second time.

    Ran

Maybe Kurosawa's last great film, made in the twilight of his career. Brilliant study of ambition, malice, weakness and a brutal, overriding nihilism. Like many of his films, the acting is somewhat dramatic, and may seem overwrought at first. In some ways it is closer to drama than to cinema (it has certain obvious parallels to King Lear).

I really disliked Man on Fire but I really liked Deja Vu. Which makes it only the second Tony Scott movie other than True Romance that I really like.

Just watched The Apartment, it won best picture in 1960. Has Jack Lemon in it. I thought it was great, but was really surprised with how racy it is for being 50 years old.

Watched High Fidelity the other night. Wanted to punch John Cusack in the face the whole time. Catherine Zeta-Jones is other-worldly hot. I thought the movie was overrated.

Xfiles as noted in the other thread, and Fargo. In some odd way, they were actually kind of similar. Fargo was good and I enjoyed it, but I don't get the hype.

Ditto- last movie I watched. Quote along and mini feast at the Drafthouse Downtown last Thursday, complete with inflatable swords, MLT (nice and lean), and even some Miracle Max chocolate covered blueberries.

Mom has a female dachshund with 3 puppies. Dad gets a puppy Great Dane.

Excellent and funny movie from years ago.

    Bunuel's Susana (1951)

A nutty piece of Mexican melodrama. I think this was shot right after Los Olvidados, and could be Bunuel's dumbest movie. Probably has the neatest finish of any movie ever. Slut comes to $#@! you up, and you barely survive. Fin.

I hope you don't crap out. I'm sure you are some iteration of somone we all know but you have potential. So with that in mind here is some free advice. Stay away from the cloak room and post on the other parts of the board.

    Just rented "I am Legend"

Overall pretty good, but not what I had hoped for. Kind of boring, and I felt like you didn't get to see enough of the dayeaters in action. There were some sad parts (I love my dog). I give it a 7/10.

Paul Newman looks like a G when juxtaposed to the poor acting idiots he shares time with in jail. He smiles a lot. Pretty sweet carwash scene for the time.

It was on HDMOV... It will help me with a game of six degrees of Kevin Bacon and had enough cheesy 80's musical montages to make John G. Avildsen blush.

I liked the movie, but I have to admit, the last part really kind of was lost on me. I don't get why Wade went with him to the train. The whole getting paid by the Pinkerton's the same amount that Wade offered him didn't seem to make too much sense either. I get the VERY end where Wade kills his men and gets on the train because he now feels a bond with Evans, but I didn't see that when they were still in the hotel.

I honestly thought that the reason Evans negotiated the $1000 from the Pinkerton was so that somehow he could let Wade off, take Wade's $1000, and make it seem like it came from the Pinkerton's.

good, but definitely not sure why it is a top 50 movie on IMDB. Well I sort of do, those retard voters have The Dark Knight ranked number 1 and LOTR in the top 10.

    Empire of the Sun

13 yr old Christian Bale completely carried this movie- great performance in a movie about life in a POW camp. Focuses on a lesser known part of WWII - the Japanese invasion of China. Good supporting cast with John Malkovich and Joe Pantoliano. I guess it's one of Spielberg's lesser known movies, but I enjoyed it.

    Ozu's Tokyo Story (1953)

Undeniably powerful but good lord, it's Japanese. I'm exhasted from watching people get up and down from their mats. Don't watch this after a hard day.

man i love that movie. i know it was horribly received and i can see reasons why some wouldn't enjoy it, but it's one of my favorites.

Did you watch the special features? In the interview with Charlie Wilson, he says that he basically told them they could show him drinking, doing drugs, womanizing, whatever, but they'd better damn well get the story itself right. I read a review that said it was pretty damn accurate to what happened (at least in the perspective of CW himself).

I can buy the congressman side of the story easily. i think the part about building a coalition of pakistan, egypt, saudi arabia, and Israel was at least a little b.s.

No, that actually happened from what I understand.
