Noticed today at the new H-E-B plus that they have Jason's Deli soups. I picked up the tomato soup and it was good.

Wife said our HEB was giving these away free:

    Tried it. Horribad.

She said they were also giving away pumpkin flavor and maple syrup flavor.

I assume someone at HEB has been fired or reassigned.

I've gone through three boxes of these in the last week. They're like a mixture of honey nut Cheerios and Cocoa Puffs.

I always wanted to try those but never wanted to commit to a 12 pack. Wish they would have made mix packs or sold singles.

The candy cane flavor actually wasn't that bad. More so unique and over powering. Having one was fine.

I bought a 12 pack when it came it and probably drank 3 or 4 over the next month or two before dumping the rest.

The maple flavored one is fantastic. They're seasonal drinks so that's why they're giving them away.

Thumbs down. Well they're good for what they are, just small flour tortillas. Was hoping they were corn tortillas since that's what traditional street tacos use.

  • #1020
what made you think those were corn? corn tortillas don't require refrigeration.

those are just uncooked flour tortillas, which is the biggest advance in grocery store flour tortillas ever (never going back to precooked flour tortillas), which happen to be small. i've also seen normal and burrito sized ones.

Heat-n-eat mac & chee tin is pretty good. Better than anything from a box. Next time I would throw some extra cheddar on top, though.

Starting this week, Luby's fans can buy fried fish in the freezer section of 270 H-E-B stores across Texas, the company announced Monday.

The Houston-based chain, which celebrates its 70th birthday this year, partnered with H-E-B late last year when it began selling frozen macaroni and cheese there. H-E-B, based in San Antonio, prides itself on bringing local products to its shelves.

"We're excited to expand our offerings from Texas heritage brand," Scott McClelland, president of H-E-B's Houston division said in an announcement.

"Luby's Fried Fish is joining Luby's Mac & Cheese exclusively at H-E-B allowing customers to bring these beloved dishes from the freezer aisle to the kitchen table."

RELATED: Luby's mac and cheese to hit the shelves at H-E-B

The fish is priced at $7.95 for a family size portion, which equals four LuAnn-sized servings.

"Whether you know it as fried or square fish, this piece of Texas culinary history is easily one of the most recognizable and most ordered dishes in the state," Peter Tropoli, chief operating officer of Luby's said in an announcement.

    Luby's operates 91 cafeteria locations.

You're kind of missing the point. The corn/flour blend go bad within a few days. And while they taste good, they have a very, very weird sticky film that covers each tortilla.

If you buy the uncooked tortillas from the cooler, they stay good for like a month and you can always have "fresh" tortillas.

They keep just fine in the fridge. And you get rid of any film when you toast them on the griddle, which you should always do, with all tortillas. We love em.

The in-house roasted lunch meets in the deli are really good. They're real meat and not loaded with water or preservatives. The turkey is about the same price as Boar's Head @ $10/lb. The roast beef is great, cooked medium rare, but the price creep on it (now $14/lb) has made it less attractive.

We've been trying to cut out red meat and other fatty meats for leaner protein and found these new turkey sausage rolls that HEB makes now.

I've tried them all except the mild breakfast sausage and they've all been really good. I had to tweak the italian sausage one but the taco and hot breakfast sausage were great as is.

They were handing out samples of the Luby's Mac & Cheese at my HEB today. This one was the spicy variety, and yes it was very spicy, to my surprise. And it was totally legit. Had that creamy Luby's flavor. I would have bought some if I were eating Mac these days, but I'm trying to keep the carbs low.

All of those are great. My fave is the Pepper Jack Cheese. Their Heritage brisket dogs are kick ass, too. The other dog-link style not that great.

The old world style in natural casing... leave that thing at HEB. It was not good

Yep. I buy the pork & venison style. It's good stuff and remarkably low-fat for sausage.

Still waiting on the return of the jalapeno-cheese dog. They have a cheese dog. They have a jalapeno dog. You'd think they could just mix the recipe but apparently that's too hard.

    Anyone have Scott's email address?
