One of the best jarred salsas out there. Made in Mexico by Mexicans for HEB.
From the deli:
cranberry turkey salad
pimento cheese (w/some pepper added that I can't recall offhand)
pico de gallo (w/mango & pineapple)
all kick ass.
I $#@!ing love their fresh spicy salsa that comes in a square plastic thing. I buy it and El Milagro tortilla chips every week.
the HEB pico is great.
i dump it in a pot of beans or a pot of chili
Texas heritage hot dogs are awesome, though they seem to have gotten rid of the jalapeņo cheese ones.
1. The kale salad with ginger is really good.
2. They've started putting out fresh homemade chocolate chip cookies with walnuts. They're so big I feel sick if I eat the whole thing.
3. Has nobody mentioned fresh french bread?
their fresh french bread is great
The pre-seasoned pork fajitas are the best.
Also their boudin is pretty solid.
The poblano cheese chicken sausage is ridiculously good. Can't stop eating them good.
Do these count since they're Central Market? Always pick them up at HEB with some hummus, so god damn good.
Their Ciabatta bread is sooooo good.
are we of the consensus that HEB is the $#@!ing $#@!? Its the primary reason why i don't want to move out of this hipster hellscape.
They have these onion poppy seed buns that are the tits also
I have used them in enchiladas because they don't tear as badly as regular corn does.
Do any of the HEB deli's still make the spicy fried chicken? It used to be $8 for a whole chicken. They also used to make barbacoa and sold it by the pound. Both were seriously legit.
The fajitas have some mystery meat hidden in the package PLUS enough fat on meat to fry chicken. Contacted HEB twice and no response - go figure that- Henry would have a fit if he heard of their give a crap attitude.
Hit the HEB at Lamar and Rundberg on Saturday (I get my haircut at Bob's Barbershop nearby). Holy $#@!, that HEB is AWESOME. It's supermercado/supermexican. They have all kinds of mexican marinated meats -- al pastor, fresh marinated fajitas, the works. All the odd meats -- tongue, sweetbreads, tripe, etc. They have a tortilleria that makes flour and corn, and they are both fantastic (hadn't had the fresh corn before). In the produce section, there's a booth that make fresh fruit cups and agua fresca -- both kids got a cup to go.
And they have cooked chicken, but NOT rotisserie -- instead, it's the whole split chicken cooked on the grill. Think Pollo Regio style. With fresh salsa, ready to go. I haven't ever seen an HEB that mexican-ized, and it was kickass.
How does Randall's remain open?
I tried the carne guisada on the recommendation of this thread, and it does indeed kick very much ass.
Did anyone see heb cane sugar candy cane flavored soda? I might have been imagining things
Haven't seen candy cane soda, but the Peach soda with sugarcane is the tits.
