I'm guessing the 5'8 182 mold bothers some teams? Seems like Nixon would be a TCU starter kit mold, so it's kind of weird.
Look at what TTU and TCU have done with tiny fast WRs. Turpin and Grant tore people up on special teams. Put them both back there and that might be a problem.

Baylor Recruiting ... not so great

Reading what AZ fans have said Rich Rod's personality can wear down players and Anu might benefit from a change of scenery. They did only have Smith currently on scholarship and then Brewer coming in this semester so maybe this gives them the chance to redshirt Smith like they wanted to do before Stidham left. It'd be like a soft RS though where they'd burn it as soon as they sense trouble.

Honestly, how Baylor is handling recruiting is interesting given that they only had one person before the hiring. Rhule has definitely made waves and a lot of their recruits apparently signed early to count for last year and must be on campus already so it makes me wonder what the $#@! they'll do after the dead period with ~25 schollys

We need bodies and guys like Solomon and Lockhart are potential guys that probably won't be very good but that's better than an unused scholarship at this point (especially Solomon since he's only here for a year).

He's small and he sucks. Bottom line. The fact he left with essentially a wide open competition... says a lot, imo.

6-2, 250 SDE that's not great against the run and not explosive as a pass rusher.

The big issue with Lockhart was always length and size at DE. That's why Bama wanted him at LBer.

Baylor Recruiting ... not so great

Meandered over to BaylorFans and saw that Oregon WR Jalen Brown is grad tansferring in June and will have 2 years of eligibility left. Interesting to note that Rhule hired Lubick who was Brown's WR coach at UofO. They think they have a shot.

Former 4 star recruit from Arizona.

Meh. 407 yards receiving in 2 years at Oregon. Maybe he just needs new scenery though.

I think they'll take anyone with a pulse that has played college ball somewhere as a transfer at this point. They have to go the Snyder Route for at least the next two years.

Agreed. Lockhart was third string behind Qualen Cunningham and Jarrett Johnson (the #2s) and only had 8 tackles the entire year. He might be a nice player to have for depth after sitting out a redshirt for a transfer but I don't think he's the kind of guy anyone is going to count on as a difference maker. If he's your starter in 2 seasons, you're probably in trouble.

Hopefully they aren't bringing in more behavior risks for the campus population to deal with.

The defense has a high number of seniors that could graduate early and transfer to ASU next season. Davis / Young / Woz / Blanchard especially. All are either the wrong size for Snow's new scheme or being asked to make position changes ( Blanchard / Woz ).

Unlike the offensive staff, the defensive staff didn't quit mid-season and still has a lot of support from the players. I would absolutely expect at least a couple transfers out.

He's a depth guy - if he's playing more than 30 snaps a game, someone is injured or some one $#@!ed up. Snow likes his SDE to be mammoth edge setters that can two gap for a blitz, and his WDE's to be small athletic guys out at the wide 9. He doesn't really have a spot in defense, he's a definite tweener

so why hasn't he switched to LBer? If he's looking to play and he's already struck out twice--counting Bama as well--why not elect for a position where he might have more success?

He never played at Bama. They were recruiting him at LBer.

As for why, who knows. He's probably too big to play LBer in the Big 12. His best fit was as a LBer in the Big 10/SEC IMO.

Lockhart is the perfect example of someone who maxed out in high school. Strong knew this, its why he stayed away from him.

There is a chance he plays the Mike at Baylor. Snow's scheme requires a lot of size at the SDE / NT / Mike. Given how bad Baylor's depth is on the DL, I'd expect him to land there, but wouldn't be shocked by a position change.

I still don't get Bama recruiting Lockhart as a LB. dude does not have the feet for that at all.

  • #1731
What happened to "burn Baylor to the ground" sentiments. You guys know that if all the crap happening at Baylor was happening at Texas, those holier than thou "we hold ourselves to a higher standard" Baptist would have torches in hand on their way here. $#@! Baylor and heres to hoping one day we wont be in the same conference with those peckerheads.

  • #1732
To be fair, if all that $#@! happened at Texas I would already have a torch in hand and my degree would be ashes.

Well they fired their President, AD, and every coach in the athletic department associated with their football program. Other than literally blowing up McLane Stadium I'm not sure what they need to do as far as torching. Plus we go and hire one of those guys that Baylor let go.

Yeah. Not too fond of the idea of hiring Horny. I just want to disassociate with them altogether. Cant we kick them out? They may have fired everybody but they are still baylor. A fake religious school, toxic and rotten to the core.

Question.....where did the roid S&C corch end up?

A 260 lb MLB in the Big 12 seems like a recipe for success.

Ish Zamora declaring for the draft. Will probably go undrafted.

I wonder if Rhule was going to kick him off the team anyway.

Baylor's roster is gonna be a mess next year. But there's no doubt they can legitimately sell early playing time to recruits.

Nick Saban should probably hire you for recruit evaluations.

Saban is ass my dude. Mothafucka can't even win titles after working every loophole and sabanizing every underperforming 4 star sophomore on his roster.

260 is too heavy, but if got down to 245 / 250 without sacrificing too much upper body strength he would be fine. It's a misnomer that Big XII teams are all super spread, Air Raid style inverted wishbone where you're deploying 5 WRs every snap and never running the ball. 5 years ago OSU won the Big XII with small fast linebackers playing a $#@! ton of man on RBs + TEs, and Bennett followed that formula with some success at Baylor. Now though offenses are copying Briles' power schemes in the box and if your 220 lb MLB can't dance around the lead blocker you're giving up 8 every play.

Of course. Rhule's best hope was to offer playing time and hope these kids don't want to sit and wait at other schools. He's nailing that so far. Baylor still has a looong way to go to field a competitive roster.

I'm actually surprised that some Baylor fans expect a 6 win season in 2017. There's too much youth for that.

Offers from most of the lower end of the Big XII - not a bad pickup.

I was guessing Rhule would recruit well, still curious how he fills this class but they are on a good pace currently. I hope Luck brings down some punishment on that shell of a school.
