They're not going to complain. Both sides got exactly what they wanted here. MLB gets to look like they take domestic violence seriously (we'll see in future cases), Chapman gets to be a free agent next year since the suspension is less than 45 days.

The suspension came after negotiations between Major League Baseball executives and lawyers for Chapman and the players’ union arrived at a number that was amenable to both sides, according to a baseball official who was briefed on the negotiations. As a result, Chapman will not appeal the ruling, although he had recently stated that he intended to do so.

Seemingly all computers are picking the Royals to finish somewhere around last in the division again. I have no clue how good they'll be this year but I'm sure they'll fight for the division lead.

They've got almost all of their key players locked up for multiple years. This team could be a DS and CS fixture for years.

They'll need their bubble gum and bailing wire rotation to come through again. The defense and relievers give them some breathing room but Ventura is their only starter who is likely have a FIP under 4.

Omar Infante is a gigantic crater in the lineup, and Drew Butera might be the worst backup catcher in baseball. Pitching is also suspect after Volquez/Ventura. AL Central should be pretty weak this year though so they'll probably still win it, but they're going to need to do major work on the rotation if they want to go all the way again.

Bullpen is going to take a big step back too with Holland out for most if not all of '16 with TJS and Madson going to Oakland.

I see them like Texas teams of the mid 2000's- as long as they make the playoffs they are a threat to win every round.

Maybe I'm missing something, but from 2000-09, Texas never made the playoffs and only had a winning record twice.

Those Houston teams had the exact opposite problem as the Royals. 3 CY contenders in the rotation and a pen full of flamethrowers, Lance Berkman and the 8 dwarves at the plate.

With their bullpen they only need their starters to go 5 or 6 innings, anything 7+ is a luxury. Even without Holland and Madsen they have Davis, Herrera, Hochever, Soria, Medlen/Young, and Brian Flynn who was an eyelash from beating out Madsen for the final spot last year. Moore has proven he is very good at looking over everyone else's scrap heaps and finding arms somebody else missed. Biggest long term issue is that Hosmer and Moustakas both become free agents in 2018. Hosmer is a Boros client so there is little chance of him resigning. Very good chance Christian Colon beats out Infante for the 2nd base job. Infante would become the defacto utility guy playing 2nd base whenever Colon needs to start a game at shortstop or 3rd base. Biggest short term issue is that Kendrys Morales in a free agent after this year and Jerrod Dyson and Paulo Orlando will be platooning in RF until sometime around the trade deadline. Backup catcher doesn't matter because Perez plays practically every day anyway.

If you don't see why needing your starting catcher to go 150+ games a year is a problem, I can't help you.

LAD pitcher Brett Anderson out 3-5 months following back surgery too. Got the QO so Dodgers are blowing $16M on a dude that's gonna pull down a half season of 3.5 ERA in a best-case scenario.

Dodgers are getting closer to becoming the Yankees in terms of horrific pitching contracts, but they've still got some ground to make up. What's the best-case for the Yankees and Sabathia this year? He gets his ERA under 4.5 and gets through half a season without eating or drinking himself to the DL/rehab all for the bargain price of $25M?

Dodgers getting smarter, I don't know if they'll ever get Yankees bad. Kenta Maeda's contract is loaded with incentives. Base $3M/yr, up to $5M in bonuses for hitting his games started and another $3M for hitting his innings.

Ryu should be back in May or June. McCarthy around the all-star break. Keep an eye on them for FA pickups or DL if you play fantasy.

Perhaps the Dodgers are getting smarter, but frankly the only direction they could go was up.

March 11 will be 'Snapchat Day' for MLB. Allowing players to snapchat and have created the 'SnapBat'. Pretty cool to get an experience we really never get to see.

Here are all 30 teams' channels:

    And the SnapBat:

Maybe..... he's already had a setback. McCarthy is another guy that can't be counted on and it wouldn't be surprising if his recovery is slow. The Maeda contract was fantastic, but remember his contract had to be renegotiated because of some arm issues. They're getting better in their payroll management and they have an outstanding farm system though. I don't see them making a deep run without a number of upgrades, but they have the MiLB assets to do so....

You have to wonder if you'll see De Leon or even Urias at some point this year....

    Yeah I think that's a mistake.

They were picked to finish like 3rd or 4th in the division last year and look what happened. Picking against them is like throwing gas on the fire. They thrive on low expectations.

88wildcat basically outlined things above so I don't need to go over anything he hasn't already said.

The Yankees acquired Chapman fully expecting him to be suspended for the beginning of the season. In fact they used that fact to lower the price for him.

Jhonny Peralta suffered a left thumb injury on Saturday. Early indications are that he tore a ligament, could miss 2-3 months.

Could be a tough season for Baseball's Best Fans.
