Hah I loved flying helos in all BF games.
I've always been the pilot that will go 30kills or pilot assists before getting shot down or crash us into the ground/building/tree on the first pass...
In BC2 I had the circle strafe of death down pat, and it was so impossible to shoot down helos that we could stay in the air for ages.
In bf3 and 4 I could go crazy in the cobra respawn in one and smash face first into the ground for some crazy reason.
I was also the pilot that would always say "i got this, don't bail!" And then boom we smashed into the ground together. Lol
Looks like the EA servers are down. Not sure if it is a DDOS attack, or just an overload of new players. I noticed playing since Tuesday on PS4 that there were a lot of empty servers.
Poodlecorp ddos attack on Dyn, knocked psn, xbl, ea, bungee and other game servers out this morning
Cool. Get that $#@! back up by 11 today night, please.
I'll never understand it. DDOS bull$#@! just hurts the players.
Agreed. I don't understand what they think they are accomplishing here. I was looking forward to a late night of BF1, been really enjoying this game so far. Even though I'm terrible at it.
Two of the poodlecorp guys were indicted by the USAO-NDIL last month... At least there is that...
They still followed through with their threat to take down destiny and bf1 today
Looks to be back up. I'll be playing if anyone with a PS4 is on. PSN ID: HookemTexas16
I bought this today, multiplayer still loading but missions so far are very choice...I suck
Any PC impressions?
PS4 here if ya'll can stand to play with a sooner.
To expand on that hot take, it's a beautiful game. The maps really offer a lot of different stuff. Some feel chaotic and cramped, some are wide open. Vehicles are still pretty brutal, but most maps offer plenty of cover to manage it.
Hacking is already a thing, but I also saw plenty of guys getting banned after one game of bull$#@!. The other problem area is squad play, looks like lots of CODers are playing and all they give a $#@! about is K/D ratio. Squad leaders aren't assigning orders, and medics and support guys are just running and gunning and not providing ammo/health/revives. That should smooth out as more people get yelled at during the game.
Really want to grab it for PC but we already bought it for my son on the PS4. Might just play it for a while on PS4 and wait for a sale
This game is gorgeous on Ultra. Really digging operations mode.
Love this game. Love that I don't have to worry about getting nuked from halfway across the map with a guided rocked while in a tank. Makes the vehicles feel more imposing. Also, the strength of semi-auto and bolt action rifles are a nice change of pace.
I loved the flir sights in bf3 and bf4.
But yeah I have a medic revived class load out with smoke so I can cover my runs out into the open to revive.
Another great addition is the random weather generation. It can change a map play completely. Was on Argonne forest and a heavy fog rolled in halfway through, it slowed the game down to half speed. One great moment was I was sprinting down a path to get back to a flag we lost control of, no real corners but because of the fog I ran smack dab into an enemy sprinting the other way, we engaged at like 5 meters once we both realized we were in front of each other.
1. Beautiful. This game is mesmerizing in it's beauty.
2. I suck.
3. No really, I suck. Please tell me that gun upgrades will make me suck less.
My main problem with vanilla is the minimap, spot markers, kill cam, 3rd person view and damage model.
Nothing fair about being able to have a 3rd person view of your tank. You should be reliant on your squadmates manning the tank guns. I don't mind if the Zeppelin would stay 3rd person, that isn't a big deal but when I'm trying to sneak up on a tank to tnt him I don't want him to be omnipotent and know that I'm running up on a "blind spot".
Also I have never liked vanilla damage model. Give me the 60% health so weapons are truly deadly and having tactical advantage feels like an advantage.
I havent figured out what assault weapons I like yet.
Scout class is stupid easy to get kills with but harder to be a good team player with.
I agree with the mini map but unless my memory is getting hazy, didn't they keep the mini map in BF4 HC?
The only person that can go third person in the tanks is the driver. That's one thing they changed from the beta. Tanks are already very slow and easy to kill as it is. I probably destroyed 2-3 per round last night even though the driver saw me. If you force the driver to be first person you pretty much eliminate the tanks from being effective.
Spot markers aren't nearly as effective as past BF's. You can't just scan the map spamming R1/Q and except to spot people anymore.
Kill cam I agree with you.
Damage model I can go either way. I like the fact that the guns appear to suck because it's WW1 and indirect fire and $#@!ty weapons was the name of the game. It promotes super CQB. I've noticed my friends that are used to HC are having a hard time adjusting because they feel like they should easily win every fight when they're 100 yards away with cover but that's not what the developers are wanting out of the gameplay. They want you to get up off your ass and charge into the fight and maybe stab some dudes. At least half of your kills should be from grenades and <15 meter engagements. I'm averaging 900 score per minute with a 2.0 K/D using this strategy.
Ultimately though the main issue with HC is going to be the friendly fire like I mentioned before. Having to be extra cautious in CQB will kill the dynamics of the game.
Bf4 HC has no minimap. Only main map when holding start button, which I like.
As to Zep, I'm cool with spotting working for them like it does in the map. I just don't like the dorito popping up over everyone if you are not looking at your map.
I like cqb, one of my favorite maps on bf4 was pearl market because it is house to house, floor to floor, alley to alley combat. I also like that friendly fire plays a part in that. I don't like that everyone can just blindly fire or throw grenades everywhere without punishment. The smoke becomes that much more of an advantage, throwing smoke into a room or trench and jumping in to rush has 0 ill-effect for the defenders to just begin spamming everything they have into the smoke. Add friendly fire and no friendly doritos over teammates, things get interesting. You can still spam bullets, a grenade and your shovel but you just might take half your squad with you.
As for the tanks, I'll never not be a proponent of no 3rd person views. I've seen tank crews hold down 3 flags because they work together with their squad and you just can't get close enough to kill them. I've also watched them get themselves blown up in a minute because they decided to park on a flag and everyone jumped out and left the driver to fend for himself.
Personally, I love immersion. I like the difficulty being cranked up, the lethality being cranked up, the immersion being cranked up. Hell I don't like being able to magically see a count of how much ammo I have in the mag and in an ammo pool...
But I worked QA for a mil-sim mod called infiltration. We had free-aim so even your hip fire wasn't "locked" to the center of the screen. We had magazines you carried not an ammo pool. So if your cycled a half empty mag it would go back in your carrier and you could cycled reloads back to that magazine still with 15 rounds in it.
Ww1 should be deadly chaos, that's what I'm wanting out of HC

I think we're both making good points. Like I said initially, I've always been a HC player for most of the reasons you've mentioned. I'm just not too optimistic that it's going to translate to this game. There's always been the issue that DICE doesn't balance this game for HC and I think the fact that CQB and sniping are the only effective tactics in BF1 make it different from BF3/4. Midrange gun fights shouldn't be effective in this game. If you looked up most casualty producing weapons from WW1 I doubt midrange small arms fire cracks the top 10. With 60% health the medics and support will start to dominate which is unfortunate because the open bolt weapons found in those classes were extremely rare in WW1.
I like how BF has always been sort of in between arcade and mil-sim. I have COD, I have Arma III and I have BF. They all scratch a different itch and I wouldn't want either of them to try and be something that they're not.
I definitely think the immersion has been turned up to 11 for this game. I'm afraid that all HC is going to do is force people to start playing overly cautious. People need to be charging into their certain death like their commanders ordered!
Oh yeah dice has never really properly thought out HC. It was tagged into bc2 as an afterthought and its remained that way ever since. Hell they finally made a change with hardline by removing crosshairs from mounted weapons on vehicles except they forgot that the ADS didn't really aim down the sights it just zoomed in a little bit... Not very creative and it was patched quickly.
Really hoping that this is why HC is locked up with fog of war currently. That they are actually thinking it out once they see how everyone responds to vanilla
I'm LOVING this game, but yeah I can't wait for HC, either that or they need to seriously tweak the guns for Support and Medic. The Medic and Support guns blow throughout, I've unlocked all of them for both classes, so I've been experimenting. The BAR is useable, but with only a 20 round magazine it's useless unless you're right up on them, otherwise you blow through your entire magazine and have to do that long ass reload _or switch to secondary) while they're only down to 20 health, and brain you because they know where they are now. With HC it would work appropriately.
Those guns "suck" because they were so rarely used in WW1 that they should probably not even be in the game. The Lewis gun was typically crew served and/mounted. Having a guy smoke me from 200 yards away behind a rock while shoulder firing a Lewis gun would be lame as $#@!.
Making them weak was he developers way of satisfying the people that wanted them in the game without comprising the realism/play style they were going for.
This difference in philosophies is probably gonna end up breaking up my squad. Some of them are pissed they can't pick people off from distance with anything other than a sniper.
My problem with the support guns is that if I want a bipod I have to have the optics...
I just want to be able to deploy and hold a street or alley or flag without zooming in X2.5.
It's funny even in bf4 I didn't care to engage targets at range with a LMG but I knew I could. With bf1 I would gladly accept a severely non-deployed punishment in accuracy for a bipod only version and slight buff in damage. If I'm gonna sprint as support, I should have a pistol or melee out rather than lugging my LMG at hip fire. But if I lay down deployed fire I should be a meat grinder
I have real problems with medic, assault is ok although I don't like the SMGs hitting like a tickle fight but they carry enough explosives to be highly useful.
I love support as I like to play a support role. I've always had a high kill count with an incredibly terrible accuracy % because I've never had a problem laying down constant suppression just to keep people from rushing or to pin down a sniper.

Downloading it right now. Can't wait to play after the game.
I think LMG's need buffing. Either make them more accurate or increase damage. It is hard to be effective as support.
Other than that the game is pretty much perfect.
I think they absolutely nailed this game. I don't think I've had this much fun playing a shooter since MW2. I didn't really like BF4, but this one is legit.
If you have a good squad that you are communicating with you can do some serious damage. I usually play as the Medic for our group and can rack up a lot of points and serve a crucial role on the squad without running and gunning. I think that's pretty unique.
I played last night and 2 hours went by in the blink of an eye.
It's tough for LMG as the support class can be incredible without a good gun due to mortors+ammo. The M109 is pretty solid though.
Good team player... bad run and gun headshot artist.
having a tough time with the faster fire / auto weapons in that it seems I can unload into the torso of an enemy with them still able to run through the fire (and body hits) and knife me.
I suck horribly when I have to hit somebody more than 2 or 3 times in the chest to drop em... Ironically, I was doing best with the Lawrence of Arabia bolt action... mortars are fun when are playing with people that actually spot the hostiles...
I imagine the game is way fun with people that actually work together and communicate... I'm on PS4 (MrVinSA)... anyone who needs another member for the squad is welcome to add me. Salut.
First time to play any in the series. Fun so far but insuck something awful.
Best game mode to level up still domination? Stick with assault class first? Is there a first upgrade to shoot for to make things a bit easier?
Having a couple of regular squad mates makes all the difference in the world. It's very satisfying to see one of your buddies run a knife through someone or whack them with the club while you are close behind them. The cackling and hooting/hollering along with your squad is so much fun. As is clowning on them when they get their head lopped off by cavalry...
I need to get better at flying the planes. If you had a bomber and two fighters working together in the air with your squad you could really wreck shop.
I haven't played Rocket League or GTA once since this game came out and we were wearing those out on the reg.
I am trying out each of the different modes, but man I am getting destroyed in deathmatch. I really need that Hardcore version in a bad way.
For significant amounts of points play Medic and actually heal and revive people.
The mechanics of the guns are actually quite different from BF4 or 3 so there is a bit of a learning curve for just about everyone.
You get more points for having a marked objective so make sure your squad leader targets an objective and then focus on defending/attacking that point.
Ranking up your class takes a while regardless.
I have to be honest. I do not get these battlepacks. Is it completely random? Feels like there should be a clearer way to get them, or understand how to get them.
