    Bias at CNN? Naw.

Sylville K. Smith’s sister Sherelle appeared on video saying that rioters should take their protests over the shooting of her brother to the suburbs, but CNN chose not to air that part of her statement as she spoke before a group of protesters on Monday.
Instead, CNN described what Sylville’s sibling had to say as “condemning violence carried out in her brother’s name, saying the community needs these businesses [being destroyed by rioting].” Smith herself was shown on camera saying, “Don’t bring the violence here.” On Monday’s CNN Newsroom, anchor Ana Cabrera again said that Sherelle had been “calling for peace.”

Several other outlets, including Russia Today, took issue with that description given the larger context of Sherelle’s speech. Sylville’s sister’s instructions to the crowd actually continued well beyond where Smith was cut off by CNN.

“Burnin down s**t ain’t going to help nothin! Y’all burnin’ down s**t we need in our community. Take that s**t to the suburbs. Burn that s**t down! We need our sh*t! We need our weaves. I don’t wear it. But we need it.”

While CNN has yet to confirm why the video was edited in this way, critics of the station are saying it was an attempt to soften what Sylville’s sister originally said. Conservative outlet NewsBusters called it “a classic case of media bias by omission.”

Nah, nothing bias there. Just heavily editing a press conference and revising the actual comments to change their meaning and syntax.

They do the same thing for Trump when he calls for a muslim boycot. I think it was changed to, we need to make sure they're killed before they can actually get on a raft to come here.

CNN's info gal admitted that the video was "unintentionally edited to show that she was calling for peace", everywhere.

    So much going on here.

That was yesterday's news. Smerconish spent an hour+ on it

You expect the big 3 to break from regular programing to discuss a PA AG?

You use a picture of MSNBC as your example of non-bias

As long as we're playing what if... we could well be sitting here with Iran testing a nuke and/or Israel lobbing bombs on them threatening to ignite an all out war in the M.E.

Yeah, well here is big old boulder to swallow.

On the foreign front, Iran deal was the best thing the Obama administration has done besides not trying to fight ISIS in Syria by conventional means.

Why is it the Republicans who always proclaim themselves to the the strongest and toughest, are at the same time always the most fearful and paranoid?

There is actually an ethical issue here beyond "bias." It is commonly accepted that journalists need to be careful about relaying calls to violence or inciting violence. You have a community which is rioting. Is it better for the journalist to broadcast someone's call to go burn down the suburbs? It's a difficult line to walk. But I agree that summarizing her comments as a "call to peace" is on the wrong side of that line. The outlet could decide not to air her inflammatory comments without repackaging them as something else.

While most journalists understand that they have a duty to tell the truth and to report on what is being said and who is saying it, they often fail to balance that responsibility against another widely recognised cardinal principle of journalism, which is to minimise harm.

But how do journalists judge what is acceptable and what is intolerable? How do they embed in their daily work routine a way of assessing what is threatening?

It’s a tricky task to judge exactly what constitutes hate-speech. There is no accepted international definition and the tolerance levels of speech vary dramatically from country to country.

To find a way through this minefield journalists must take into consideration the wider context in which people express themselves. They must focus not just on what is said, but what is intended. It’s not just a matter of law or socially acceptable behaviour; it’s a question of whether speech aims to do others harm, particularly at moments when there is the threat of immediate violence.

Not really, anymore. The game is absolutely changing. Anyone with a smart phone can get unfiltered "news" out to millions of people, without any concept of journalistic boundaries. Traditional media is competing with that and I think that affects expectations of the consumer. So, I don't think traditional journalistic boundaries are really common sense anymore. I get the expectation. I get that folks don't trust the media to filter the news to protect them. I can see news outlets who realize that if they don't provide more transparent reporting, they will be ignored in favor of completely uncontrolled social media. I think it's a legitimate ethical question in today's era. But, it's not surprising that someone who went to a journalism school is going to stick to the traditional boundaries.

I don't peruse CNN often but I did hit up the website Sat morning via a link. Amazingly, there were two different leading stories at that time - "Milwaukee Riots" and "Trump Supporter Assaults a Reporter". The riot story only mentioned that the cops shot someone, blacks were mad, some things burned, and a few quotes from a Milwaukee alderman who blamed the cops. The Trump supporter story was no more than an article about how a guy called the media traitors and flipped off a reporter.

I distinctly recall some of CNN's articles about Trump supporters actually being beaten, chase, assaulted, etc... having more of a "Trump supporters clash with Trump detractors" vibe as if both sides were equally at fault. (I'm speaking specifically of Chicago and San Jose.). So the CNN scorecard is thus,

Black people are mad but nothing about the violence and/or racial threats.
    Trump rallies had clashes.
A single, Trump supporter flips of a reporter ASSAULT ASSAULT ASSAULT!!!!

No media bias? $#@! you, media bias is fact

I'll be honest, I was hoodwinked by CNN for awhile, than HRC happened and I opened my eyes to what I was actually being fed. Used to watch it every day, now I'll only occasionally flip to it during certain events just to see how they're spinning it counter to reality.

Now that the flood waters ravaging Louisiana are receding, it's time for President Barack Obama to visit the most anguished state in the union.

Last week, as torrential rains brought death, destruction and misery to Louisiana, the president continued his vacation at Marthaís Vineyard, a playground for the posh and well-connected.

Weíve seen this story before in Louisiana, and we donít deserve a sequel. In 2005, a fly-over by a vacationing President George W. Bush became a symbol of official neglect for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. The current president was among those making political hay out of Bushís aloofness.

Sometimes, presidential visits can get in the way of emergency response, doing more harm than good. But we donít see that as a factor now that flood waters are subsiding, even if at an agonizing pace. Itís past time for the president to pay a personal visit, showing his solidarity with suffering Americans.

Like his predecessors, Obama has no doubt discovered that crises keep their own calendar, even when commanders-in-chief are trying to take some time off the clock. Itís an inconvenience of the presidency, but itís what chief executives sign up for when they take the oath of office.

And if the president can interrupt his vacation for a swanky fundraiser for fellow Democrat Hillary Clinton, as he did on Monday, then surely he can make time to show up for a catastrophe thatís displaced thousands.

The optics of Obama golfing while Louisiana residents languished in flood waters was striking. It evoked the precedent of the passive federal response to the stateís agony in 2005, a chapter of history no one should ever repeat.

EDGARTOWN, Mass. (AP) — President Barack Obama is unlikely to break from a New England vacation to survey flood damage in Louisiana, despite calls for him to visit and meet with responders and victims.

The White House insists Obama is not indifferent to the suffering of thousands who were washed out of their homes in the Baton Rouge and Lafayette areas of the state. At least 13 people have died as a result of the flooding, and at one point 11,000 were in shelters. That number has dropped as water levels have receded.

In an editorial published Wednesday, The Advocate newspaper in Baton Rouge called on Obama to visit “the most anguished state in the union.” The newspaper noted that Obama interrupted his two-week vacation on Martha’s Vineyard earlier this week to attend a fundraiser for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton on the Massachusetts island.

The newspaper said Obama can and should visit now that the once-raging floodwaters are receding.

“The president’s vacation is scheduled to wrap up on Sunday. But he should pack his bags now, and pay a call on communities who need to know that in a national catastrophe, they are not alone,” the editorial said. “The president’s presence is already late to this crisis, but it’s better later than never.”

Obama has issued no public or written statements about the flooding. The White House said he has been receiving regular updates and briefings on the situation throughout the vacation, including from Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards. Obama also approved a federal disaster declaration for affected areas of the state.

Media will beat this like a dead horse.

Well, in BHO's defense he only boards planes for campaigning, and visits to islands that are also states starting with an H, or countries on continents starting with an E.

Good PR? NO. But Gov. Edwards does not want Obama to do a sight see. Too many first responders taken off their tasks to protect the President and do the $#@! that backs up and restricts traffic.

Gov. Edwards says he has everything he needs from the POTUS since day one. And this is a Red State where a lame duck POTUS that cannot help Edwards get reelected.

Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards is defending the Obama administration's response to the severe flooding in his state.

President Barack Obama has received criticism for staying on vacation rather than traveling to Louisiana to see the damage first-hand.

But Edwards said Thursday that he's spoken with the White House daily and has received quick responses for each request he's made to the administration. He noted that FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate visited the state Tuesday and Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson was in-state Thursday.

Edwards said he is "not complaining in any way about our federal partnership."

He added that while the President can visit whenever he'd like, he'd prefer him to wait "a week or two" because such visits require local police and first responders to help block roads and provide security.

Both Obama and Edwards are Democrats.

If he's doing all he can great, that doesn't change the BS double standard applied by our fair and non partisan media.
