We open up tomorrow in a double header against UTSA and Abilene Christian at the UT Golf Club indoor tennis center. Wouldn't surprise me if Center splits up half the roster to play against UTSA and the other half to play ACU.
Note: UTSA's assistant coach is a former UT Tennis great, Dimitar Kutrovsky.
Texas def. UTSA 7-0
No real surprises here. I did predict Goldhoff would still play line 1 due to seniority, but in this match Center played Sigsgaard played line 1 and Goldhoff line 2. Ito will probably be line 1 singles against ACU tonight since he didn't play singles against UTSA.
Texas def. ACU 7-0
We won the doubles point but our line 1 doubles tandem of Goldhoff and Telles lost. Sigsgaard still played line 1, but he was struggling a bit today. He even had to save a match point in the second set against Josh Sheehy. Overall it was a solid day of tennis for our #4 ranked team.
Texas def. SMU 4-1
We dropped the doubles point but came back strong in singles. SMU is actually a good team. We only have a top 25 ranking system now as opposed to a top 75 like we did in past years, and SMU is in the "others receiving votes" category so they are a top 30 team.
Lost to Tulsa. Lost doubles and lines 1 and 2 both lost
Tulsa def. Texas 4-3
Tough loss for the guys, but Tulsa wasn't intimidated and they played well. After losing the doubles point for the second consecutive match in a row I knew this one would be harder to climb out of since Tulsa plays well at home. Our freshmen both lost their singles matches, which was surprising. I know they're both good players, but I still think Center should have kept Goldhoff at line 1 to start the season while the two freshmen get used to the dual match college atmosphere.
Our key to being able to rebound against Arkansas on Sunday is to get the f'n doubles point

Texas def. Arkansas 5-2
We won the doubles point and that made life easier for the team in singles. Sigsgaard and Ito both rebounded with wins today. And Zlobinsky was taken out of the singles lineup in favor of Banzer which I think makes our team better moving forward
Did I see Thor took out #3? Nice response
Ito knocked down to #3 singles? Do you see Thor-Goldhoff being 1/2 for a while with Ito at 3?

I hope so. Although Goldhoff didn't win his match today I think he needs to play line 2 going forward, and yeah Sigsgaard beat a top player today....nice rebound for him after his match on Friday where he looked pedestrian
Thor is Big 12 POW:
The Big 12 Conference announced Tuesday the selection of Texas freshman Christian Sigsgaard as the league's Men's Tennis Player of the Week. It marks the first such honor for UT's newcomer from Denmark.
On Sunday, Sigsgaard defeated Arkansas' Mike Redlicki, who won the 2016 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships in November and is currently ranked No. 3 in the ITA singles rankings.
Sigsgaard, already the nation's sixth-ranked player after only a semester-plus of collegiate tennis, collected his third win over an ITA top-15 opponent this season. He added a doubles win alongside Harrison Scott in UT's 5-2 win at #19 Arkansas.
Sigsgaard boasts an impressive 20-4 overall singles record after competing in the first two national championship events of the season – the ITA All-American Championships and the ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships.
Sigsgaard and the Longhorns resume dual-match play this weekend when they play host to the ITA Kick-Off Weekend event beginning Saturday, Jan. 28
Men dropped to 9th (ouch)
TCU dropped to 12th
Ok State up to 13
OU dropped to 16
Baylor up to 21
I thought it would be a worse drop tbh. We lost to freakin Tulsa.
Probably beating #19 right after kept us from dropping too far. It's always hard with the sports that play 2-3 games/matches a week. Does a good win negate a bad loss in the same week?
Rankings in tennis and womens basketball are similar in that losses to opponents ranked higher than you don't hurt you at all but wins over opponents ranked behind you don't really help you. So our win over 19 arkansas didn't help us, but the loss to Tulsa did hurt us. Good news is, we will play plenty of those 8 teams ranked ahead of us currently assuming we qualify for the ITA indoors.
Texas def. Drake 4-1
We will face Oregon tomorrow for a spot in the ITA indoors
Texas def. Oregon 4-2
We lost the doubles point and Zlobinsky's singles ( no surprise ). Everyone else played pretty well although Sigsgaard had 2 match points on his serve and didn't convert. Goldhoff clinched the victory. This win qualifies us for the ITA national indoors next month.
Baylor, OU, and OSU were the other Big 12 teams to qualify for the ITA's. TCU and Texas Tech failed to qualify. TCU's #1 player is busy playing a pro event in Hawaii.
Anybody knows whose arm is in the sling in that video on twitter? Banzer? Goodwin? Ortiz?
Also Aggies lost twice this weekend even when hosting. With their current schedule, I think it's going to be an uphill climb for them to have a winning record this season.
I know a guy. It's Ortiz
Texas def. Virginia Tech 4-3
We won the doubles point and John Mee, who made his season debut today, was the first singles win of the day. Telles and Scott won their singles next to give us the victory. Unfortunately, our remaining 3 matches of Sigsgaard, Goldhoff, and Ito all lost. Thats really disappointing
Texas def. Purdue 4-0
Texas def. TAMU-CC 4-0
We keep winning, but our ranking keeps dropping. We're out of the top 10 now at #11. That Tulsa loss continues to haunt us. We could make up for it though with a good performance next week at the ITA indoors. Draws should be posted in a couple of days. If we can come out of that tournament with a winning record that would be big.
We will start the ITA indoors by playing against #7 Florida on Friday at 11am. Very winnable match for us
Won the doubles point at 2/3 doubles
First set singles:
We just need 3 singles wins.
Texas won 4-2
Harrison Scott #3
Texas def. Florida 4-2
Will face #2 Wake Forest tomorrow
Lost 4-3 to Wake
And we beat an in conference foe, OSU, 4-2. We won 2 out of 3 matches at the ITA's so I'm happy with that. We even pulled off an upset along the way
Sigs is definitely in a rut right now. Although Goldhoff hasn't been exactly setting the world on fire this season, I'm in favor of moving him into the #1 position since he always seems to rise up to the level of his competition. I mean he finished last season beating the #1 player in the nation so we know what he's capable of....and of course he's a senior now.
Team ranking: #7 (+4)
Singles: Thor #11 (-6), Ito #31 (+14), Scott #48 (+10), Telles #86 (was NR), Goldhoff #124 (was NR)
Beat WSU 6-1 but THor lost at #1 singles. Are we ever going to move him down?
We are at real risk of getting blanked by Wake Forest. Dropped the doubles point and lost all of the first sets in singles.
Yep we were shut out and never really had a chance. Such a fall considering how close we were to beating them a couple weeks ago. Our #4 singles player, Ito, was out this time forcing zlobinsky to play line 6 but other than that the lineups were pretty much the same. Just a $#@!ty day all around. To be fair, they were expecting to play this match outdoors until hours before the start time when they decided to move it indoors due to inclimate weather. Wake forest was in the same boat though....
A mixed result trip to Cali this weekend. We lost to #41 Stanford (4-1) but bounce back and upset #6 Cal (4-3).
Nice. #1 Ohio State next. Eek
Yeah it really sucks that this match against the #1 ranked team in America is played on a weekday, during spring break. So students are out of town, and alumni living in Austin are all at work. Not a great combination for attendance. Match starts at 1pm today
We lost the doubles point. Our line 2 doubles lost 6-0. jeez. On to singles
Going to be a loss. But damn we were competitive in most of the singles matches. All of them went to 3 sets.
Yeah all 6 singles matches went 3 sets. That's pretty rare
Ohio state leads 3-0 so Texas needs to win all of the remaining matches
It ain't over.
Ito up 2-1 in the third set
Telles up 6-5
Banzer up 3-1
Telles wins the tiebreaker. 3-2
Ito up 4-2
Ito wins 6-4
Banzer in a 4-4 tie for it all.
