I read, "Well, we don't have any good defenders, and Anderson is really terrible at it, so let's hope we don't lose."

I feel like this is something you can actually go out and acquire. Any thoughts on who'd be most desirable/available?

Bench has gone a bit cold, but very nice start to this thing. Keep it up.

    Triple Dekker!

  • #264
Well at least we hung onto the lead at halftime

  • #265
Ho hum, 14 and 9 at halftime for Harden...

  • #266
Gosh darn Brewer is $#@!ing awful. 2 wide open corner 3 looks and bricks both, he's just useless on the court.

  • #267
Brewer and Ariza are so bad. Fortunately Ariza plays at least some defense

  • #268
Up four - Harden misses two free throws.
    San Antonio scores
Up two - Harden misses an awful three pointer
    San Antonio misses.

    Should be tied.

This win makes up for the Lakers loss. Need to win the turnaround game and get up 2 on the Spurs.

Why do we do these back to backs with Dallas and San Antonio? Kind of stupid but whatever. I'd gladly take a 1-1 split with the Spurs on Friday but sure would be nice to win at home.

i would have been (and probably still would be) fine with a split going in, but now i'm greedy and want both of them.

    Wooooo!

Great road win. Spurs fans will point to Danny Green being rusty and no Parker, but I give zero $#@!s. Glad we pulled it out after Harden sputtered down the stretch.

  • #280
Also, we may never be a great defensive team with this roster and style of play, but the effort was there from everyone tonight and it made a huge difference. I can only think of one play - Gordon got backdoored pretty hard - where I threw my hands up in frustration on the defensive end. Harden's effort generally sets the attitude of the rest of the team, and it's there right now.

really enjoyed that lowe piece and found this quip pretty funny:

That system is devastating, by the way -- at least when Harden is on the floor. (If you look up Houston's scoring numbers with Harden resting, your computer just laughs at you.)

Good lord, what a bitch. Harden is, by far, the best player in the NBA so far this season. 30.6 ppg, 12.7 assists, 7.6 rebounds.

There was a point where LA was putting it to Ryan Anderson. Effort was acceptable (not great, but not Harden 15). He just doesn't have the ability, it seems... although, LA fired through stretches where he loss unguardable.

No it doesn't. It's the same end of game approach he had under McHale & JB. Pound the ball until the shot clock's under 8 then either drive when the defense is expecting it or toss it out last minute where the receiver only has time to hoist up a shot at the buzzer. It's frustrating as hell to watch. Is it too much to ask that he just keep running the offense that got them the lead he's seemingly trying to ice?

Yeah, its about match-ups for us. We are going to make sacrifices defensively that we hope to exploit on the offensive end, ya know? it's going to be some give and take with the flaws/skillsets some of our guys have.

Our best hope defensively, is that our offense becomes so potent that teams are constantly having to play uphill on the scoreboard and that it mentally wears teams out over time. I would have to imagine that we put a lot of pressure on teams to score themselves. I mean we average 30+ pts in the first qtr so far, that's letting folks know right out the gates what kind of night their in for!

He doesn't fully trust his teammates yet. There was another stretch earlier in the game where he kinda took over when everyone else was missing open shots (Anderson) or making dumb moves (Brewer). When they don't deliver, he goes into, "Well, nobody here is better than me, so..."

It gets frustrating to see, but I understand it. The players around him have to earn that respeck.

This has been proven to work in the regular season and fail in the playoffs.

This Spurs fan points to the Spurs playing $#@!ty defense in the first half. All credit to Houston though. Nice win for Rox. D'Antoni's system is going to be so good for Harden.

Think about this, Steve Nash never had a triple double with 15 or more assists

Yep. He obviously played a GREAT game and is the best NBA player right now (he's even playing defense) but the last 2.5 minutes were brutal. I would guess the plus/minus in those situations over past three seasons is terrible.

Interesting. Some follow-up observations to that. Steve Nash was exponentially less athletic than James Harden in his prime. Steve Nash had a better assist to turnover ratio. If Harden is able to cut down his turnovers by 1-2 per game, he'll start encroaching on HOF PG territory.

He only had 4 triple doubles... all came the 4 times he had 10+ rebounds... 3 regular season and 1 in the playoffs...

James Harden has never had 20+ assists.

James Harden has never had 15 assists and 0 turnovers.

I wouldn't compare the two... but yeah.
