Kick it off with an official schedule!

    http://www.texassports.com/schedule....&path=softball

    Highlights:

Texas Classic ft. Minnesota (2 games on the 10th and 11th of Feb.)
Texas Invitational ft. South Carolina (2 games on the 17th and 18th of Feb.)
Mary Nutter ft. ND, Missouri, Tennessee, ASU, Washington
    3/1 Texas State
    3-game set @ Arizona March 3-5
    @ UCLA 3/12
    @ Clark's alma mater CSF 3/17 and 18 (DH)
    Open Big 12 play @ OSU 3/24-26
    UH (DH) 4/2
    4/5 @ Texas State
    OU 4/7-9
    @ KU 4/28-30
    Baylor 5/5-7 (@ Baylor 5/5, @ Texas 5/6-7)

And then Big 12 tournament in OKC

This is actually a legit schedule. 15 tournament teams and 5 who made it to the Supers or better.

Texas State, Tennessee and Long Beach State made the Field of 64.

OK State, South Carolina, Baylor, CSF, Minny, ASU and ND all made Regional Finals.

Missouri, Washington, Arizona were Super Regional participants.

UCLA and OU were in the WCWs and OU won it all.

    Thanks for posting !

Looks like they will be in Cali for Spring Break 3/12-3/18 (UCLA, Loyola Marymount, LBS, and CSF). Should be good for RPI.

Do you think OkSt and Tech will continue to improve ? Need a strong conference.

Pretty cool that we're able to host not 1, but 2 pretty big tournaments to start the year here at home. Hopefully Erica Wright is ready by February so her and TD can alternate starts

We've always hosted decent tournament but it's been a while since we had a GOOD name come in (Tennessee in 2012 and Kentucky in 2014). Minnesota is a good name - hell, I want Jess McAllister when we finally fire Clark.

McNeese also made the NCAA. So 16 teams who made the field (28 games of 53).

Not that I think we would be worried about this, but pretty cool for some lesser programs in our conference (ISU, Tech, sometimes KU/OSU):

    http://www.flosoftball.com/video/101...vealed-in-2017

Dave King, CEO for Triple Crown Sports revealed secondary college post-season play in 2017. Similar to NIT basketball, teams that don't make the NCAA tournament have the option to play in post season.

48 teams will be invited to the tournament with 16 regionals in a double elimination format.
Also check out who posted that. Hey Chez!

Can't imagine that pays very well. Seems like a position where she still could/should have been able to do both.

    Congrats to Marlee !

Quite a success story. At Senior Day it was announced she was the first member of her family to attend college.

Not positive, but I was told last year that Blaire is an elementary school teacher in Del Valle and a volunteer coach with their high school team.

AUSTIN, Texas – Former Texas softball outfielder Marlee Gabaldon has been announced as the new head varsity softball coach at St. Andrew's Episcopal School in Austin.

"I am so thankful for the opportunity to coach at SAS," Gabaldon said. "I hope the players are as excited to get the season started as I am, and I can't wait to get started in a few short weeks."

A 2015 grad of the Forty Acres, Gabaldon saw action in 131 career games with 71 starts for the Longhorns from 2012-15. After spending her first three seasons serving primarily as a pinch-hitting option off the bench, the Odessa, Texas, native evolved into the team's every day starting right fielder as a senior. During the 2015 campaign, she started all 55 possible contests in helping the Longhorns to a berth in the NCAA Los Angeles Regional and a 38-17 overall record, hitting a career-best .275 to go along with single-season bests in runs (18), hits (41), doubles (five) and RBIs (18).

Off the field, Gabaldon earned her degree in applied learning and development with a minor in social work while picking up selections to both the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll and the University of Texas Athletic Director's Honor Roll.

"We are excited to welcome Marlee Gabaldon to the St. Andrew's family," Director of Athletics Jeff McCrary said. "Her impressive athletic pedigree, coupled with her coaching work in the softball community will be invaluable tools as we continue to grow our softball program."

Her body has had over a year to recover. If she's still not ready, then we have a long way to go in rehab medical science.

And a long season in store.

I think she's back. I hope she's back. I don't want to go through that Tenn-ASU-Washington stretch without her. Or 3 games at Arizona. Or 3 games vs. OU.

Still odd to me that Brooke Bolinger is not listed on roster, bc she supposedly transferred in and has to sit. WBB has Jatarie White on the roster, who is sitting out due to transfer rules. Though Brooke does come up in the UT Directory.

Interesting. Can't recall an early high school enrollee for softball. She is definitely needed to help at catcher. Bolinger eligible according to this article?

Georgetown High School catcher Taylor Ellsworth will skip her senior season with the Eagle and begin her college career at Texas this spring.

Ellsworth was one of two mid-term enrollees for the Longhorns that are immediately eligible to play this season. The other is Brooke Bolinger, a left-handed pitcher that transferred from the University of Nevada.

Both practiced with the team on the first day of practice Wednesday.

Ellsworth was a three-year standout at Georgetown High School where she had a career batting average of .550 with 21 home runs and 107 RBIs. She played club softball for Austin’s Texas Blaze. She was a two-time all-state player.

Bolinger, who’s from Yucaipa, Calif., posted a 16-6 record with a 2.81 earned run average, 18 complete games and 118 strikeouts during her freshman season at Nevada.

Wow, that is weird. But I'll take it. This gives us depth at the C position behind Leahy, allowing Hathaway more time as DP/OF.

Official release for Bolinger and Ellsworth. Both now on the roster.

College Sports Madness preview: #25 Texas (that's fair)

Last year Texas made their 12th consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament, going to the Lafayette Regional where they were eliminated after losses to host team Louisiana, 9-1, and Texas A&M, 9-3, ending their season. The team decided to make a coaching change after the season ended replacing long time hitting coach Corrie Hill with former Oklahoma Sooner hitting coach Tripp McKay. Last year the team had some problems winning road games. While they were 24-5 playing at Red & Charline McCombs Field, on the road they could only manage a losing 7-8 record. Texas will be without power hitting outfielder Lindsey Stephens this year, who put up some impressive offensive numbers last season, along with infielder Stephanie Ceo and catcher Erin Shireman, who will also be missed for their solid play.

    2016: 38-16, 10-7

    2016 Postseason: NCAA

    Coach: Connie Clark

    Key Departed Players:

Lindsey Stephens, OF, .407 BA, 15 HR, 46 RBI

Stephanie Ceo, IF, .273 BA, 0 HR, 12 RBI

    Erin Shireman, C/IF, .235 BA, 1 HR, 7 RBI

    Key Returning Players:

    Tiarra Davis, P/IF, 1.97 ERA, 213.0 IP, 186 SO

Paige von Sprecken, P, 2.91 ERA, 98.2 IP, 61 SO

    Celina Felix, 3B/SS, .358 BA, 8 HR, 39 RBI

Stephanie Wong, OF, .232 BA, 1 HR, 14 RBI

    Reagan Hathaway, OF/C, .309 BA, 5 HR, 30 RBI

    Projection:

Even though Texas star player Lindsey Stephens is gone due to graduation, the team is returning five everyday starters that combined provided the majority of the teams hitting power for last season. Also back are starting pitchers Tiarra Davis and Paige von Sprecken. Time will tell if the team's freshmen phenom pitcher Erica Wright, who was forced to redshirt the entire 2016 season because of an injury, can come back and show the same form she had before the injury. Texas is set up to have a good season with their strong returning pitching staff and core of hitters, who also have some speed on the bases. They also have a strong group of freshmen coming in that should push the veteran players and add to the team’s available talent pool. Look for Texas to make its 13th consecutive bid to the NCAA Tournament this season.

    Projected Postseason: NCAA Softball Tournament

Yeah I noticed that today, kinda wondered if anyone had news here about that.

I'd definitely say I don't have real high expectations for this year considering what still feels like the usual CC letdown around here, but I like the idea of the lineup shaken up a bit from what it was the last 2 years or so. That senior class last year (except for Stephens) just didn't deliver the way they should have. Time for the next group.

  • #25
On a side note, Wow!! Didn't see Connie cutting Corrie loose coming. I like it though, this team needed some kind of change there with our hitting getting anemic at various stages down the stretch. I don't know if our winning ways are going to be back until Connie herself is cut loose, but this McKay guy certainly has gotten some good offense out of his squad so ... gotta be worth something.

New rules to increase speed of play

    http://www.ncaa.com/news/softball/ar...oftball-season

6 conferences at the mound per team
    90 seconds between innings
No more defensive huddles at the mound after outs
