    Shaggy Top 10 Albums – 2016

Probably a good time to get this going.

Good samaritan that I am, I'll tabulate the results and post them in early January (just to give the stragglers the chance to fill in their picks.)

    I've created a Google form: https://goo.gl/forms/8OBwQSTFnazMLpUB3

In order to prevent ballot stuffing, you'll need a Google account to fill it out, so if you don't have one you don't get a vote. Tough $#@!.

Feel free to post your top 10 here – I certainly enjoy seeing everyone's picks – but you'll have to fill out the form to have a say in the final results. I ain't manually entering picks in.

    I went with:
    1. Car Seat Headrest, "Teens of Denial"
    2. Lydia Loveless, "Real"
    3. Drive-By Truckers, "American Band"
    4. Wheeler Walker Jr., "Redneck $#@!"
    5. Dexateens, "Teenage Hallelujah"
    6. Jack Ingram, "Midnight Motel"
    7. Natural Child, "Okey Dokey"
    8. Sturgill Simpson "A Sailor's Guide to Earth"
    9. Todd Snider "Eastside Bulldog"
    10. Austin Lucas "Between the Moon and the Midwest"

Hard Working Americans "Rest in Chaos" and Hiss Golden Messenger "Heart Like Levee" are interchangeable with the last 3 albums to me.

I had my first kid this year, so I am way behind this year. Looking forward to everyone's list to catch up. The lists all over online or really rap/hip hop heavy, which isn't really my thing (no racist).

I think I am getting old because I would have an easier time coming up with a list of 10 albums I disliked so much that I was personally offended by them than I would a list of 10 albums that merit being on a top 10 list.

I don't think it has anything to do with getting old. Sometimes there are just fewer bands/artists in your particular wheelhouse who put out albums in a given year. I was kind of like that this year... it seems most years I struggle to pick just 10 albums, but this year I had to really think about the last 3-4 albums or so... I didn't listen to those nearly as much as as I did my top 6-7.

    1. Parquet Courts - Human Performance*
    2. Wilco - Schmilco
    3. Hamilton Leithauser/Rostam - I Had a Dream That You Were Mine
    4. Pete Yorn - Arranging Time
    5. Drive-By Truckers - American Band
    6. Savages - Adore Life
    7. Sturgill Simpson - A Sailor's Guide to Earth
    8. Angel Olsen - My Woman
    9. Radiohead - A Moon Shaped Pool
10.Regina Spektor - Remember Us to Life

    * As an aside, "Berlin Got Blurry" was probably my favorite song of 2016.

The Avett Brothers would be the only thing keeping Radiohead out of the top spot on my hypothetical $#@!ty album list.

i don't think sunlit youth is a great album by any means, but my homer tendencies towards them is going to keep them on my list.

a moon shaped pool bounces somewhere between my top 3 and not-at-all list depending on my mood. definitely a quiet album.

Same. And that's sacrilege coming from me. I'm not sure I can do a Top 10 list this year but there's a good chance Radiohead and Wilco's offerings don't make it.

My favorite album of the year has been Hamilton Leithauser + Rostam. I also like the Band of Horses album quite a bit.

I really want to like that Doyle Bramhall II release, but man, lyrics are not his strength. As in "get someone else to write them".

    Gotta pick up Wilco.

I wanted to like it more too. Guy I went to high school with plays bass for him now.

Rolling Stones "Blue & Lonesome" is pretty cool. Maybe not Top 10 of the year cool, but cool nonetheless. I've spun it a few times today.

    .
True, lyrics are not his strong point. But the second half of the album really kicks in to some fantastic complex music, real artistry.

I need to check this out. I loved Gaslight Anthem up through "Handwritten" but thought "Get Hurt" was absolute trash. Where would you peg this?

Also, the BJ Barham and Felice Bros albums were both really solid.

It's better than Get Hurt. That's my least favorite Gaslight too. I like it more than Handwritten, but I'm probably in the minority.

I'm listening to the Fallon album right now and really like it.

I thought "Handwritten" might have been Gaslight's peak.

I've listened to '59 and Handwritten so much that I'm probably just burned out on them and Painkillers feels new.

BJ's album gets a big bump because of Unfortunate Kind. Love that tune. Makes me think of my grandparents. A lot like Space City does.

Margo Price's "Midwest Farmer's Daughter" deserves mention.
