Can you still do the Amazon Prime free for 30 days trial right now or is that called off because of how much they make on that during CHristmas season? I don't use Amazon except to watch this show but I don't really want to pay $85 for a year's worth of Prime to watch 10 episodes.

Basically, what I'm asking is how can I steal this show? because I really liked season 1.

Without bumping the season 1 thread, would season 1 be OK for a kid to watch? More particularly my 12 year old son?

I don't remember anything terrible. There's some language and violence but not over the top.

My recollection was that it was kind of PG-13.

Philip K $#@! novels are on a High School reading level. There's some sex, but hey didn't embellish it for TV.

Starting Season 2 now. Off until Sunday so I'm tempted to binge it.

There were a couple of quick scenes with top less women but nothing major.

2 episodes into season 2. It seems to be moving forward, but I can honestly say with no spoilers that I am even more confused as to how the cross-dimensional thing is going on.

edit, re: 12 year old. There is some pretty deliberate violence so far in the first 2 eps for season 2.

So guy in video game raping and murdering women is just 12-year olds developing hand-eye coordination.

But guy in movie committing mild acts of violence in a Nazi uniform will twist young minds?

    Got it.

    completed the season.

no spoilers, it took a while, but I think I finally have a pretty good understanding of the alternate universe rules, and its purpose in the show.

I can say this, the season finale finished strong. I am much more interested in seeing season 3, than I was seeing season 2 after I binged on season 1 last year.

I will come back to the thread once more folks have seen the season to answer some questions.

Watched them all last weekend. I agree that S2 ending left more more excited than S1's ending did. All in all, loved every minute of it.

thats probably because we know, as a whole, that other than the $#@!tard lunatic leader and genocide agenda, the $#@!ing Germans would have innovated the $#@! out of everything.

We know for a $#@!ing fact that Germany would have been very technologically advanced.

Japan on the other hand, without the full capitulation, and understanding that the Emperor really wasnt a $#@!ing God, would have had a really hard time with scientific discovery.

so in short, we know Germany could have succeeded in taking over the world, so her alternate history story is a lot more plausible and interesting

    The Germans had Fritz Todt.

The Japanese had a myth that they were ruled by a living God because you could see the Sun encircle three sides of their home island.

$#@! did a lot of drugs, but his story isn't that bat$#@! crazy.

Finished it and loved it. Very impressed with the special effects and CGI. They did a great job in creating the world that Germany and Japan would be like. Especially Berlin and Hitler's offices, buildings and stadiums. Great special effects throughout.

  • #36
Finished it and loved it. Season 1 was entertaining, but season 2 was outstanding.

Not sure I fully understood Frank's side of the Resistance. If John Smith had not exposed Heusmann's lies, Germany would've launched WW3 against Japan. Frank wanted to destroy Japan's development of the A-bomb, but this would've made it easier for Germany to defeat Japan, essentially leaving the Nazi Reich as the world's sole unchecked superpower. That seems worse than having Japan and Germany bomb the $#@! out of each other.

Was Frank simply seeking revenge against the Japanese for the murder of his sister and her kids? Or were they attempting to prevent the nuclear destruction of San Francisco at all costs, even if that meant handing the world over to Nazi control?

good point that I've been wanting to discuss. I never know with these "all episodes come out at once" shows what the Shaggy protocol is before we don't have to bother with spoilers anymore. It's been less than a month so I sorta understand.

I acknowledge that Season 2 drifted quite a bit from the source material which was all but exhausted in Season 1, but the question you raise I think draws particularly on $#@!'s metaphysical question of reality (and remember in his story, the alternate universe exists as a written text not as a film reel). And the show-runners certainly can't ask $#@! about this, but I suspect that Frank's choice was not so much utilitarian/which outcome kills most people or even so much about his sister/children being murdered. But rather, did he chose what he did simply because that was the horrific outcome presented to him? He couldn't, literally and figuratively, see the other outcome you described and as such, it was not as immediately horrifying to him (particularly since he has already lived under the thumb of a $#@!ty regime). Add to this, that as a Jew-his fate would be all but sealed under an expansed Third Reich.

I don't think the resistance is strong or centralized enough to be capable of the kind of strategizing required to decide that they should help Japan as a counterbalance to Germany. Ground level operatives are pretty much tasked with guerilla operations against the occupiers in their neck of the woods and letting the chips fall where they may. Also, for all Frank knew, Japanese development of the bomb in San Francisco was going to be the reason why Germany nuked it. Or Japan would develop the bomb in time and launch first strikes against Germany, as the Japanese general was planning, leading to a horrible nuclear war that would kill everyone. He didn't have the information necessary to decide that Japan should be helped to make the bomb to prevent nuclear war. Hell, Tagomi had that info, acted on it by arranging the transfer of nuclear data, and was wrong anyway. It took an unforseen trip between dimensions and an ingenious use of a film he got there to prevent the nuclear war.

Also, the only one in the resistance in a high level position to act was the Man in the High Castle himself, and he focused on simply making his reality line up with what he saw in the films in which San Francisco wasn't destroyed. And in those films, he presumably saw the San Francisco resistance taking on local Japanese occupiers in the same reality in which San Francisco is not destroyed. So if anything, he would have encouraged Frank's group to keep up the fight and count on Juliana to stop the Nazis through her actions in New York.

Just finished up season 2. Was surprised that perhaps any of the last 3 episodes could have stood in for a good season ending cliffhanger. Also glad to read recent reports about MITHC already greenlighted for season 3.

Binge watched the whole series over the last few days. I decided I didn't like it around Episode 4 but stuck with it. It's pretty crappy. Wasted premise and very predictable. Not a single interesting charectar. Moved way too slow and jumps around so fast it's hard to keep up. The Edelweiss opening is nails on a chalkboard. Julianna is sexy though. Had never heard of the books or the author. Sci-Fi isn't my thing. Would have liked to have seen more action and tits.

Disappointed as WWII is in my wheelhouse.

Yeah, you keep saying that yet you fail to understand that much of WWII wasn't action nor tits.

good point about Himmler. I think it was to demonstrate his popularity and respect reach far out of Berlin, all the way to the furthest reaches of the Reich (NYC, for example). And that conspirators are never out of his grasp.

Perhaps Himmler mellowed in his old age. It is 1962.

and he knows the Reich would never acknowledge a usurped movement from the former U.S. John Smith and his effectiveness can only boost Himmler and show how far-reaching his power and influence are. By showing off Smith and his "dealing with" Heydrich, Himmler knows it's not like Smith and the Greater Reich States would ever be legitimized in a play for power but they certainly show those back in Deutschland that he's got this $#@! under control, yo.

What was glossed over, but would have presumably been dealt with as some throw-alone line to explain it all is that in real life, Heydrich had loyalty to one man and one man only, Himmler. Hitler was just some guy on stage, Heydrich saw Himmler as the way to the future for the 1000 Year Reich. But we're obviously well past source material at this point in the show.

Disagree on the lack of interesting characters. That you can sympathize with the Chief Inspector, Trade Minister and the Smiths make them interesting.

And I like the transition of Joe Blake, though dont care for him, nor Frank Frink - which is kind of the point. The narrative is that you're not always supposed to sympathize with the "good guys".

Same with Edilweiss-its supposed to be uncomfortable.

Good show, last three episodes was worth it.
