Some folks, like the ones who lost, love the storyline that Vegas got spanked.
That's good for Vegas. But the reality that a team that lost last year to Bama would not have a chance this year was quite flawed. But Vegas didn't seem to mind the challenges. They will win no matter what. They did not lose on this one.

Yes, also a reminder that 2005 USC is the only team from 2005 on that list.

In other words, their methodology sucks ass.

FiveThirtyEight also had some chart showing adjusted yards or something giving Deshaun Watson's performance the other night as higher than Vince in 2006. Deshaun's performance from a year ago was 3rd. Personally, I think either USC or Texas beats both of those teams that played the other night so Vince's performance is still #1.

Watson was definitely playing a better defense, but he also didn't do it nearly as much "on his own" on Monday night. Watson was able to just throw the ball up to Mike Williams and Jordan Leggett whereas Young didn't have that luxury of receivers who completely overmatched the DBs.

Plus the tempo of Clemson absolutely wore down the Alabama defense. This year's Alabama defense truly was a great unit, even historically speaking, but by the time the 4th quarter got going they absolutely weren't anymore. They were tired, and Clemson's strategy helped them get there. Look at it like this: Texas ran 76 plays against Southern Cal, Clemson ran 99 plays against Alabama. If the Southern Cal defense had to play another quarter against VY that night, what do you think the odds are that they stop him at any point in that quarter?

Yep, the problem was our offense. Even when they scored, it was on a big play that took little time off the clock, hence putting the defense right back out there. The rest of the time, it was a bunch of 3 and outs. Damn, are they(and I) going to miss Foster, Allen, Anderson, Tomlinson, Eddie Jackson and Tim Williams. They have plenty of talent for next year but those were all senior leaders.

So are you guys going to win the SEC again next year?

I can see two losses (FSU and a SEC loss in there too).... so are you expecting to be the first 2 loss team to make the playoff?

It all depends on how much progress Hurts makes in the off season. If he can progress in his reads and his timing on deep passes, then we should have time for our defense to gel. I would put the FSU game as a toss up right now. The SEC should have better QB play, all around, than this year. Ask me again after they play that first game.

FSU ain't gonna beat Bama. After losing Cook? No way. They lost to Louisville by a thousand points. Bama will pound the $#@! out of that QB, he was hit so many $#@!ing times this year, that OLine for FSU was $#@!.

    Agreed.

Also, I would love to see a participation snap count for the game. I don't think coaches sub enough. Sometimes subbing isn't possible, but Bama is loaded two, maybe three deep. Venables let Louisville back in the game against Clemson because he wasn't subbing enough on defense and they got gassed.

FSU doesn't have any difficulty putting stud RB on the field, yeah he won't be Cook, but he'll still be damn good. Florida State had a pretty damn good team this year, and returns 7 on offense and 9 on defense. I wouldn't be surprised if that's a pick em line....

Also, I keep seeing people point to Louisville and how they did against FSU and Clemson, and then how they finished against Kentucky, Houston, and LSU. Herman exposed that Louisville OL, and laid the blueprint for beating the Cardinals. I bet Clemson and FSU beat Louisville easily if Herman exposed that OL at the beginning of the year instead of the end. That Cardinals team that finished the year was beaten down and had given up.

Eyeball test, both 2005 Texas and 2005 USC beat both 2017 Bama and 2017 Clemson, and it wouldn't surprise me if it wasn't close.

A few weeks ago I watched the 2006 Rose Bowl; it's still shocking to see the disparity in talent and execution between our Natty team and what we put on the field last season. It's easy to forget just how good both Texas and USC were. Watching the title game Monday night, I found myself thinking, "wow, Texas and USC would kill these teams." And I thought that frequently. You had 2 Heisman winners, 1 who should have won, and tons of unbelievable NFL talent on both sides of the ball on both teams. It was just surreal.

I'm not trying to take away from either Clemson or Bama, but 538 has had a rough year and I call bull$#@!.

Odds are zero. VY was taking over the game and USC D was gassed. IIRC, I read somewhere that USC even admitted as much.

FSU will be absolutely loaded next year. I still expect Bama to be very good, but they're losing a ton on defense. Also, they still have Jalen Hurts under center lol.

Good thing they put up all that fencing. Things could have gotten out of hand.

i know with certainty that we were about to break that game open to the point where bama would struggle to come back. if colt doesn't go down, that may have turned into a rout.

Oh no doubt, FSU recruits with the best of em. Problem is, Dalvin Cook is a premier player, and the guy behind him isn't Dalvin Cook, albeit he may be great. Bama is gonna pound the $#@! out of that QB, because they have no one (at this point) to worry about besides him. Stop the QB, win the game. And Alabama should know this since their QB just got exposed after their top RB was out.

To Herman exposing Louisville, if that's true, and honestly I don't know if it is or isn't (and really don't care either way), the fact that it takes another coach to show Jimbo or Dabo how to beat a team, then that tells me that they're really not "great" coaches to be able to diagnose how to find a teams weakness, themselves. And if they couldn't do it against Louisville, how the hell are they gonna do it against Bama.

FSU is a one dimensional without Cook, especially the first game of the season? Defenses tend to dominate early games due to lack of chemistry on offense. 3rd or 4th game, then its a different story. Not the first game though. FSU will struggle and Bama will win by 2 maybe 3 TD's, just the same way they did against USC this season because thats what strong defenses do early in a season to teams that struggle offensively early in the season. You think Bama would beat USC now that badly? Different QB I get it, but still, offense was struggling, regardless.

You can't consider how they're playing now, you've got to consider how they're playing the first game, next year.
