Top 2 or 3 Barleywine.
My buddy brought back several crowlers from Weathered Souls in San Antonio after liking what he had on tap there.
However, all of them kinda tasted like $#@!. We ended up cracking one after another and we're disappointed by each. He swore they tasted better on tap (& the crowlers were obviously filled at the same time as he was drinking them on tap). The only thing we could figure was that they somehow don't have their crowler game down yet (maybe they were leaking and letting in oxygen?). Such a waste of a bunch of beer.
Luckily, we had a few beers that made up for it (as we were kegging our latest homebrew).
And this one was DAMN good. Don't think I've ever had a bad Wicked Weed beer.

Man, sorry those crowlers sucked. Could tell you were fired up about them. ☹️
goddam i love cascade. jealous of that pic. apricot and blueberry are my jams.
That brew 1000 is tits. Jealous
And damn, im disappointed those Weathered Souls werent good. Heard nothing but good things and want to try
Thanks guys. Like my buddy said - they were apparently much better at the brewery so don't let my bad experience (& wasted $) deter you.
Those crowlers look awfully flat. Do you know if they shot CO2 into them before filling? I could see that having a big impact on IPAs.
Yeah I asked my buddy that and he said they did shoot them with a CO2 hose. We were originally gonna just drink one crowler but when he cracked and poured it and realized it didn't taste like what he had at the brewery, he went through the rest of the cans hoping to find ONE that tasted like it was supposed to be but, alas, there was none. That was a disappointing $70 lesson to learn that crowlers don't always work out.
So... when I am going to be able to buy some goddamn Bell's around here?
siap, but it appears that brash will be making a bba barleywine. dunno if the 40oz part is for real, but that would be amazing.
Also, for what it's worth, the crowlers I brought back from Brash had no problems.
Yeah, I'm thinking they were bad purge/fill jobs. I haven't heard much about Weathered Souls, but what I did hear was very positive. Brash crowlers, in my experience, have been consistently delicious.
What are y'all sippin on for the second half of wild card weekend? Don't go too crazy, we got the CFP final tomorrow night :)
Just got home with my newborn daughter from the hospital. About to crack a Pirate Bomb! to celebrate the occasion.
congrats, bruv. 10 fingers, 10 toes?
She doesn't seem to be interested in the Steelers game. This Pirate Bomb! is damn good though. I'll have to pick up some more of these.
Second. Two daughters. The other is three and a half.
This is my first Pirate Bomb! though.
Congrats Jonkr. Just dropped my youngest daughter off at the airport to go back to Austin for school. She just turned 22 and I remember bringing home from the hospital like it was yesterday.
To make it beer related, she prefers Radler or a cider. That said, she probably knows more about beer than any other coed at the University of Texas from following me around all these years.
My kids went to Chicago for their Honeymoon and drank at Local Option. They just surprised me with this earlier. Good funky stuff made in Austin, shipped to Chicago and then brought back to Austin haha
Is this the new Shaggy dad thread?
My pregnant wife (no pics you savages) doesn't mind if I drink while she's pregnant, score one for old dark horse.
PSA: Ramen Tatsu-Ya on S. Lamar has Yellow Rose on tap, quite IMO, but will set you back $7 / pint.
Founders is retiring Pale Ale and Devil Dancer. I don't think too many people will be upset.
The wife and I went to the newly opened Lazarus brewing on 6th and Chicon and were very impressed. It's a new brew pub that seems to be focusing on more British style beers (apparently the brewmaster initially learned to brew in England) and tacos/tortas (weird combo, but whatever). I really enjoyed the ESB and Irish Red. But more impressive were the tortas. The wife had chicken and I had al pastor and both were legit. We've been looking for a torta place in Austin since we got hooked on them while she was in LA and we've definitely found the place. If you're looking for a fairly chill place with some harder to find beer styles and really good tortas, check it out.
I really liked Lazarus' space. Their beer has potential based on first runs, but haven't had anything excellent yet. I really dig them based on their build out and their urban, no-distribution philosophy. Real Portlandish in that way. If you want to drink a Lazarus, you have to do it on site. I think they said they might do growlers at one point, dunno, i forgot that detail. I also love that they have about a dozen or 16 taps all dedicated to their own beers. No guest beers. I didn't take away that they had a brewing philosophy -- maybe a bit northern european/belgium-ish i guess, but their brewer comes from Victory, so I'm excited for the first pilsners to start rolling out.
If any Shag posters won the lottery to buy Toppling Goliath KBBS and Assassin on Friday, PM me if you want to bottle share. Wife says there's a few folks from Texas that won bottles and will be travelling up to the Driftless for Friday's beermageddon. Half-assedly guessing there might be some here.

Yeah, unfortunately I feel like I'm getting a deal when I find anything decent for $5/pint anymore.
$3 pints across the board at Hay Merchant a couple weeks back was pretty awesome though.
Ultimately, it makes me drink a little slower and savor a little more. I treat beers more like $#@!tails now.
