    So what's your current stack?

    for webapps, i'm using:

    server:
    ------------------
    node v6.1.0
    npm v4.0.5
    express v4.14
webpack 2.2-rc.0 (+middleware, loaders, plugins and all that)

    app:
    ------------------
    babel v6.x (with multiple plugins)
    lodash v4.17
react 15.x (and plugins -- dom, redux, etc)
    redux 3.6

    data:
    ------------------
    mysql
    postgres
    firebase (real-time db, etc)
    multiple 3rd party apis

working on financial and healthcare apps.

i'm certain my current stack will change every few weeks.

    what about your stuff?

it's interesting. both you guys develop with angular. i relied on angular through v1.5.1 but changed to reactjs.
angular was great, but the v2 rewrite soured quite a few colleagues -- especially upper management/architects.

we changed to reactjs in early 2016. now preact and inferno (release announced yesterday) are gaining
dev community share. i'm sure another code migration will be on the horizon.

do you guys just stick with a framework until.....????

or do you spend time assessing fameworks for the best fit
then dealing with pain for the code migration?

I've had 5-10 people working almost 2 years on our project. I don't think I can go to my boss and say "hey, we're going to change frameworks so no new features for 6 months while we change over" so I haven't even looked at alternatives lately.

I work for a custom software consultant company so we try to develop and then turn everything over to the client. It's rare that a big rewrite would ever occur during or after a project unless a lengthy amount of time has passed.

    Node
    npm
    Gulp
    Express
    Angular 1.5
AWS + linux + LXC containers
    MS SQL

I use Angular for the same reason as Blacklab. My project is ~1.5 years old, and it's just not feasible to spend time switching to react. There are other projects being worked on in our group that are being done in react.

Cloud Academy has good intro videos to get ramped up on containerization - https://cloudacademy.com/cloud-compu...docker-course/. Containerization is overly complicated because of the large number of things that get wrapped into containerization that aren't that ( resource scheduling, resource limitation, orchestration, etc ).

The best piece of advice I can give you is to treat a container just like an executable, and push all the other stuff off until that starts to make sense. Build several TINY projects ( like a Node app that returns one GET resource for a JSON status or something, or a database w/ one table and two rows in it, etc ) and practice "building" the image w/ different ways - learning how to automate the build / push / runlocal / deletion process through your scripting tool of choice ( I use Makefiles personally, but there isn't a right or wrong way to do it ). Once you get really comfortable with it ( took me a few weeks of screwing around off and on ), look at ways to deploy the container later.

Docker training videos want to take you all the way through "deploy and orchestrate" because "deploy and orchestrate" is where they can make money. Skip that part for now. It's heinously complex and not relevant to containers themselves. Just learn how to deploy locally. Once you get a handle on it, then start looking at container engines ( Kubernetes / Mesos / Docker Swarm / AWS / etc. ).

AWS also has awesome support for multi-container (Docker) applications with Elastic Beanstalk if you get that far. It's a bitch to learn as the documentation on AWS isn't always a step by step guide, but you can host your docker images inside EC2 Container Repository and tag your images that can be deployed to an appropriate build.

Internal web app for a Fortune 500 company. Small number of users, but massive amounts of data.

    ESXi VMware Virtual Machines
    CentOS 7 Server OS
    Maria DB 10.0.21 w/Galara Cluster
    Mongo DB
    Apache 2.4.6
    PHP 5.4.165
    Bootstrap
    Kendo
    jquery/dataTables
    Angular 1.x
    font awesome
...and some C# parser / ingest accelerators

We've progressively reduced the work our PHP is doing and increased the role of Angular. There's never time for a complete rewrite to new technology, so once code is in production, unless it has a problem, it typically only gets superficial face lifts.

anyone up in here with a family background in commercial aviation?

also, if you have a fetish for TSA abuse or airline shenanigans that works too.
