Thread: Chargers moving to LA....

    Chargers moving to LA....

Chargers moving to LA. Big mistake. LA is a fickle market that won't support one spare team let alone two:

So which one moves first? And are they going to hire Fisher to help them deal with the emotional trauma of moving to a new city?

They should have moved to Texas, everybody else from California is...

If the NFL wanted to more money, I would buy the Mexican national team and just have them play at the Rose bowl 10 times a year. They will draw 100k every game. That's a better idea than putting NFL teams there.

I read the article. Serious question, is Qualcomm a dump or something? I've never been there and don't really know much about it's present condition (or any stadium, ftm).

LA could support a half dozen teams if they're winning. No one moves to LA with the intention of being a "spare".

The milk toast SD fans won't miss them at all. They will be getting hot stone massages on their yachts while trying to cope with a 74 degree heat wave that just won't let up....

The Raiders moved from Oakland to LA back to Oakland. No one seemed to notice.

Several friends went to the Holiday Bowl this past December. All of them agreed that Qualcomm Stadium is a $#@!hole. Concrete breaking off in chunks, dark and crowded concourses, nothing had been updated since 1990, etc.

My three favorite teams growing up will have now moved...

Oakland, Houston, and now San Diego..

Might be a reason why the NFL is losing viewers

It probably won't be. But try convincing a billionaire of that. Especially one who was never going to get a shiny new stadium close to downtown here.

Tell me about it... my gas bill doubled with all the evening fires I'm lighting!

Anyway, I also think this is a terrible move, and that 2 teams in LA have no chance long term. I know it's all about the TV deal, but as ratings continue to decline and attendance wanes, the re-up on that contract might not be so sweet.

SD locals seemed to be pushed away by big hotel's misinformation campaign... or just flat couldn't stand to see another season of Phillip Rivers.

  • #23
Unless they are changing ownership and management this will be a huge failure. They at least had a fan base that supported the team in San Deigo, even if the ownership didn't.

    There's that.

The NFL is basically a collection of corporations who move from city to city and regurgitate the same coaches along the way. Color me unenthused.

The NFL is basically diluting the hell out of the 2nd biggest market in America by putting two spare teams there.

I think he wants Al Davis to come back. He would have moved the Raiders back to LA in exchange for a fancy new stadium, playoff team or no playoff team.

And how many fans support the team whenever they suck in LA?

The NFL is just a business at this point that doesn't give a $#@! about its consumers or employees, just the bottom line and how much their franchise is worth.

Spanos and Kroenke can eat a $#@!.

Look at the NBA and see the difference in how leadership is currently working at the top. There's a reason why the gap is shrinking, and Goodell letting the owners run amok is up there.

Spanos is a $#@!. He's also tried for the last dozen years to get a new stadium to no avail with absolutely no resolution in sight. These things aren't mutually exclusive.

    Welcome home!

People from LA and especially Orange County already went down to San Diego for Chargers games, so now they can see them closer to home. Plus, after the $#@! that Fisher left in the Coliseum, people will be happy to support a team with a real QB and running game. The Chargers also may be able to sign better players in the off-season now that they are moving to the #2 market in the country to become the #1 team there.

(Of course, the Raiders fans will be driving and flying to Vegas to see their team now that they've moved much closer to (East) LA.
