Yeah the local infighting kept us from getting an expansion team. I agree that as much as I would have liked another Oilers team to replace Bud's defecting football team, it would have been some bad juju on us.

Sort of but no not really, the city and state fought to keep the sonics in seattle in the courts and lost.

Leases and contracts are broken all the time and the idea ofa major city not having a sports franchise isnt far fetched think La and football and 7 years Houston didnt have a football team

The chances of a chinese owner buying the team to move to china is pretty slim but I would think fans of the rockets would want to mitigate any chance of new ownership moving the team, overseas or to another city here in the states. and IMO that would be with a local owner who has been a fan of the team, though I wouldn't put it past Fertitta to try and move the team to Vegas.

Hall of Fame center Dikembe Mutombo, who played the final five years of his career with the Houston Rockets and retired in 2009, said he is working on putting a group together that he hopes will try and buy the Rockets franchise. Owner Leslie Alexander put the Rockets on the market on Monday. “I’m working on it,” Mutombo said in an interview with FOX 26 Sports. “I’m talking to a lot of people already since (Monday). We’ll see. “I’m just talking to the people who can cut the check and they can make me be part of it. I’m working on that.” – via FOX 26 Houston
That would be cool, depending on who the others are in the group.

Say what you will about Tillman but there is no chance he moves the team to Vegas.

The NHL parent club Minnesota Wild (who also own the team) wanted their top developmental team in their back yard and got a more favorable lease in Des Moines. When the Aeros were formed they were owned by Chuck Watson, who also operated the Summit, so the Aeros had no lease and the Rockets paid him rent. Alexander tried to get out of the lease in the late 90's but Watson forced him to hold to it while both men jockied for control of the future downtown arena. Eventually Alexander won and the Rockets operate Toyota Center. They charged too much for the Aeros to be able to afford the rent. Just like the Oilers it was politics, not attendance or support, that brought about the move.
Property ownership is the original politics...

The market for three point specialists is hot.

Yep. If it wasn't so hot then he would have been perfect in OKC, Houston, Philly, CLE, or any other place. But that's exactly why the market was so hot to begin with. The 3 point shooting talent isn't as deep as it was a few years ago.
